Accountant reports

These are the reports built for the person checking the books rather than running the business. They all read the same ledger, so a figure you open in one always matches the figure in another.

Account transactions

Every entry that hit one account, in order, with a running balance. This is the report you open when a figure on the balance sheet does not look right.

Each row shows the date, what raised it, the customer or supplier, the amount, and the balance after it. Foreign currency entries show both the original amount and its value in your base currency, so the running balance stays readable.

Opening and closing balances are shown in the account's own natural sense, so a liability reads as a positive amount of liability rather than a negative asset.

Reconciled lines carry a tick, so you can see at a glance which entries the bank has confirmed.

Trial balance

Every account with a balance, as at a date, in debit and credit columns, with totals.

An account is placed in a column by the sign of its balance, not by its type. An overdrawn bank account appears in the credit column, where it belongs. Placing accounts by type is the usual reason a trial balance stops adding up.

The report states whether it balances. It always should. If it ever reports otherwise, something wrote to the ledger without going through the posting engine, and that is worth knowing loudly.

General ledger

Every account's opening balance, movement and closing balance over a period, in one view. Use it to see where activity was concentrated, then open an account to see the detail.

Cash position

Opening balance, money in, money out and closing balance for every cash, bank and mobile money account, for a day or any range.

Because mobile money tills are ordinary accounts, this answers both "what is in the business" and "what came through the tills today", depending on how you filter. See Cash Drawers and Tills.

Exceptions to closing date

Every posting made into a locked period, who made it and when. This is the report an auditor asks for. See Closing a Period.

Filters

All of these can be filtered by location and by reporting tag, and run on either cash or accrual basis. Every report states the basis it was produced on.
